Wild Mother – complete – for now

I have finished stitching her for now – as I stitched I could see her becoming………wild-mother-complete3

A close-up of the stitching

I really need to borrow a better camera, the one I have distorts the colours and does not do close-ups clearly, even with the zoom.  Still, it does the job for now.

Where I go now I am not sure – I seem to recall there being a white horse involved somewhere – echoes of the Morrigan and Rhiannon perhaps.

About Jill

This is beautiful, Jill!. My suggestion about the photography: take it outside on a sunny day and photograph it without the flash.

You amaze me. I am mezmerized by the flow of stitches. You may be one of my most cherished artists, Jill.

oh, she’s a beauty, Jill – shows how every stitch by itself maybe isn’t that compelling, but all together, what a wonderful result!

oh wow. i am overwhelmed. i don’t know whether to cry or bow in honor. is there a raven somewhere?

  5. Linda D. says:

Mmm, gorgeous, beautiful colours. Oh and I agree with Lori – try to avoid using flash – if you can’t go out, place your work near a window, it’s what I do on these cold days, lol!!!

Fabulous work Jill. I love the way the stitching flows. The movement is very restful and hypnotic.

  8. I love the way you make the fabric alive with a story (:

  9. Your work really is extraordinary Jill. This piece will hang beautifully in Lenore, place of the Wild Mother and the feminine.

  12. I really like the colors. It has a shimmer to it. Wonderful!

  13. Thalia says:

the effect of the individual stitching really enhances the overall piece and encourages the eye to follow the flow. Beautifully done.

  14. lee says:

the stitching is really different – it adds so much texture and density to the piece.

If you are willing to experiment, there are a couple things you can do with even a small, cheap digital camera. The first is to turn off the flash, and see if you can light the object sufficiently with ambient light. The second is to look for a macro option – usually a flower icon – that will focus on the object when it is close to the lens. The last is to avoid the zoom and try to get the camera to focus (usually there is an autofocus in the shutter button, press it halfway or something like that) close to the object.

good luck with the photography, and the new pieces!

Can’t believe the amount of stitching in this – must have taken forever. And still so much more to come 🙂 Also – am reading posts backwards – love your crow drawing above.
